Biography
On the CD 'Adventures in Afropea 1'
Zap Mama is: Marie Daulne, Célia Kankonda, Céline
'T Hooft, Sabine Kabongo and Sylvie Nawasadio. Five women making
a-capella music. 'Adventures' was released in 1993 by Luaka Bop,
and was released before that in 1991 as 'Zap Mama' by Crammed Discs.
Marie Daulne, Sabine Kabongo and Sylvie Nawasadio also appear on
'Sabsylma', together with other singers
and percussionists, including Marie's sister Anita. Sabsylma sounds
'sharper' than 'Zap Mama/Adventures'. According to Marie because
they had been touring a lot "...If you are driving in a
van for months, and you constantly hear the sounds of traffic, TV,
hardrock on the radio...those sounds hook up in your ears, and come
out if you start to sing."
From the album '7' Zap Mama is Marie Daulne.
It's no longer just a-capella, lots of instruments join the voices
and no longer all-female.
